Home Care Packages
Stay independent and comfortable at home with personalised care and support.
Home is where the heart is
Your home has gathered memories, seen milestones, celebrations, and generations of family come and go. It has seen love, laughter, and tears, and been a constant support through it all.
We understand how hard it is to leave home at any stage of life, especially when you're not ready, or don't want to. This is why genU's Home Care Packages are designed to help your home continue to work for you as the years go by. We bring the extra services and help you might need into your home so you can stay active and healthy while living in the comfort and familiarity of your own home.
With over 30 years’ experience, we partner with local providers to help you get the best value from your Home Care Package, ensuring you are supported with the right tools to maintain your independence.
Find out more of the details below, or let's grab a cuppa to chat about how genU could help you be more comfortable at home with our Home Care Packages.
What is a Home Care Package?
A Home Care Package (HCP) program supports you to stay living at home and participating in the local community you love, for as long as possible, through a range of helpful services and supports. It is is an Australian Government subsidised program provided to Australians 65+ who may be experiencing an aging-related condition.
Home Care Packages have four levels, from basic to high-care needs. Each level receives a different amount of funding per year based on your assessment with the Aged Care Assessment Service. Funding amounts are increased each year to ensure you can continue paying for the services you need.
Package level | Level of care needs | Funding amount per year (as at the start of 2025) |
---|---|---|
Level 1 | Basic care needs | $10,588.65 |
Level 2 | Low care needs | $18,622.30 |
Level 3 | Intermediate care needs | $40,529.60 |
Level 4 | High care needs | $61,440.45 |
How do I get started?
genU can help you navigate the Home Care Packages process. Follow the Five Simple Steps below - we'll be by your side every step of the way.
To get started, My Aged Care is the best place to call to see if you are eligible for a Home Care Package. They will help you set up an Australian Government assessment to identify your needs and determine the package level you qualify for.
If you only need temporary or short-term care, or are a visitor to Australia, you may not be eligible for Home Care Packages, however, the Commonwealth Home Support Programme may be suitable for your needs.
Five Simple Steps...
To apply for a Home Care Package, you need to register with My Aged Care.
We can make a referral to My Aged Care on your behalf or you can call them direct at 1800 200 422 or visit https://www.myagedcare.gov.au.
You will be given a My Aged Care referral code that will follow your referral process. genU can also assist with any interim services required while you wait for the process to be formalised.
If genU is your preferred provider, let the My Aged Care team know when requesting an assessment or we can follow your referral through to starting services.
The Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) will call you to book a time to visit you in your home for an assessment.
It is important to discuss your needs and current living situation openly with the assessor to ensure you get access to all you services you require.
Our team can assist with this process, which will determine if you are eligible for a Home Care Package.
Following your assessment, My Aged Care will send you a letter to let you know if you are eligible for a Home Care Package, and if so what funding and services this may include.
If you are eligible, you will be placed on a national waitlist and notified when your package becomes available. As the services are allocated on a needs basis, it is a good idea to get the HCP process started early as there can be extended wait times.
When you receive your letter, feel free to contact us and we can work through the next steps with you, or line up some services to help you in the meantime.
My Aged Care will send you a letter when your package has been allocated. You will then have 56 days to choose a provider, like genU, and start services.
When you have chosen your service, you will be appointed a Case Manager who will be with you every step of the way. They will get to know you better, ask about your preferences and outline your goals to come up with a tailored support plan for you.
Once we have finalised the plan, you can start your first service.
What can I use my services for?
While there are guidelines on what you can use a Home Care Package for, your Case Manager is there to help find services to best meet your goals.
Some services could include:
- Assistance with cleaning your home
- Someone to drive you to appointments
- Help with grocery shopping
- Assistance with showering and dressing
- Help to maintain your home and garden.
- Equipment to make your home safer, or to increase your independence
- Access to Allied Health Services to maintain your strength and mobility for as long as possible.

There are no citizenship or residency restrictions on Home Care Packages, though if you’re a visitor to Australia or someone who only needs temporary or short-term care, Home Care Packages may not be the right fit for you.
