In maintaining the highest hygiene standards, Barwon Health relies on genU to provide clean essential products on a regular basis, as it serves the community with high-level healthcare at one of its many facilities.
Business Solutions team member Ashley visits Barwon Health sites daily helping with a diverse range of services – including tasks like collecting dirty laundry, delivering clean laundry, and distributing vending packs as part of the needle exchange initiative.
This is Ashley’s primary role, having earnt the responsibility to take care of this vital service.
Joining genU ten years ago, Ashley has worked his way up and through various roles, after starting in grounds maintenance before moving into packaging and logistics roles.
Starting as a supported employee four days a week, Ashley hit a major achievement when he secured open employment as a delivery driver in 2021. This was due reward for his determination, a willingness to grow his skills and apply himself diligently to the tasks he was given.
This was followed a year later when his efforts were acknowledged locally, winning the 2022 Achievement Award at the Geelong Awards for People with Disability, in a testament to how far he had come during his time with genU.
“Stepping into mainstream employment last year was exciting,” Ashley said at the time of his award. “Every day is different and being able to get out on my own is awesome.”
genU CEO Clare Amies said Ashley epitomised the commitment shown by every genU team member to ensure Barwon Health has its business needs met.
“Since joining genU, Ashley has flourished and we are delighted with how he continues to grow and steps up whenever he is needed,” Ms Amies said.
“He is deeply committed to his role and proud of the contribution he makes, not only to genU and his team, but also Barwon Health, as the leading health organisation in his home town.”
Ms Amies said genU understands that business needs can be diverse and varied, depending on their own unique service offerings.
“Business Solutions is as much a motto as it is a genU division – we work collaboratively to identify where businesses need help and find ways to deliver for them, efficiently and effectively,” Ms Amies said.
“Our pick-up and drop-off service takes the stress out of organising your laundry, and our multiple washing and drying facilities are run by our experienced and dedicated staff.
“This means your order is filled quickly and cleaned to a professional level.”
Ms Amies said the Barwon Health partnership was an example of fostering genuinely inclusive communities to create real social impact.
“Among the many benefits, it provides meaningful work opportunities for people with disability like Ashley who have a drive and passion to contribute,” Ms Amies said.
